Shardlow India was established in 1960 in collaboration with Ambrose Shardlow, UK. It manufactures intricate forging for cankshafts, axle beams, slub axles, gear blanks and steering arms and specializes in forgings for Crankshafts, close tolerance connecting rods for two, three, four, four and six-cylinder engines.
The company also manufactures axle shafts and axle beams for heavy and light commercial vehicles and tractors.
There are two forging units of the company at Chennai and Hosur respectively, comprising a battery of counter blow hammers, forging presses and upset forging machines with integrated facilities like precision die shop for manufacturing dies and heat treatment facilities to handle varieties of heat treatments like normalising, hardening with water/oil quenching facilities tempering and isothermal annealing. The crank-shaft machining division at Hosur has modern machine tools for geometric/mass centering, turning, drilling, induction hardening and finish grinding. Electronically controlled feed cycles are employed for process size control.
Facilities also include induction hardening on diameter and fillet radii and nitriding with systems for process control and quality control at all stages, ISO 9001:2000 certified by BVQI, the domestic customer base of the company includes Tata Engineering, Ashok Leyland, Kirloskar Oil Engines, Simpsons, TAFE and defence establishments..
